BG Freight Line links Ireland, France and the Netherlands
Monday, 01 March 2010
PEEL PORTS-owned BG Freight Line is launching a weekly container service between Ireland, the Netherlands and France.
The two 800teu-vessel butterfly service will use Rotterdam as a hub, with one ship heading to Dublin and Cork while the other sails to Montoir de Bretagne and Brest.
The first sailings from Montoir are on March 22, and the first from Cork and Brest are on March 23.
The service will connect the two French ports into BG Freight Line’s services calling at Belfast, Grangemouth and Teesport through transhipment at Rotterdam.
BG said that, “even in these challenging times”, the new service would create new opportunities for quay-to-quay, door-to-door and feeder traffic.
Cpt Michael McCarthy, commercial manager at the port of Cork, said: “BG Freight Line has identified an unexplored French market which will help to better service the needs of the Cork/Munster region, while also opening new opportunities for feeder traffic between France, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, England and Scotland.”
In Rotterdam, the service will call at APM Terminals’ facility and Rotterdam Short Sea Terminals.
